Introducing a Coalition Focused on Responsible Regional Conservation of Sharks & Rays
In 2017, the Ecology Action Centre formed the Shark League of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, along with 3 other organizations, in order to work together to improve the international management of sharks, skates and rays.
Recommendations for Shark Conservation Actions in Canada
In March 26, the Ecology Action Centre and several other shark conservation organizations sent a letter to the Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans outlining a number of important actions that should be taken by the Canadian government to protect sharks and improve management. The Ecology Action Centre attended ICCAT in 2016 with several recommendations including the adoption of catch limits for shortfin mako and blue sharks, and a rule to require sharks to be landed with their fins naturally attached to their body. [Link to EAC recommendations to 20th special meeting]
